about the artist

Born and raised in the Bay Area, Gloria Amaral comes from a musical family. Exposed early to the Classical, Brazilian, Jazz, Salsa and R & B genres, Gloria naturally gravitated towards music. Singing professionally since the age of 24, she took private voice lessons with Jackie Hairston, and classical with Rick Fox at Golden Gate University.

Gloria has performed with many groups such as Orquesta Radiante, Candela, Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir and it’s Ensemble. She eventually started her own Salsa group, Dulcemambo, leading and directing a 12-piece orchestra comprised of mostly women. It was during this time that she was asked to audition for lead singer for the all-woman Jazz Fusion band called Wild Mango. While singing with both her own group and Wild Mango, she also started singing with another woman lead band – Orquesta D’Soul (ODS).

Gloria has shared the stage with Linda Ronstadt and the Oakland Symphony. Gloria currently continues to sing with ODS, write and record music, and pursue her first love, Jazz. The Gloria Amaral Quartet is a project Gloria has wanted to bring to fruition for some time. Now, working with some of the Bay Area’s finest musicians, she will continue to develop her love of singing Jazz.

Gloria is currently performing with the Brian Andres and the Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel and Orquesta Pacheco.

Gloria has performed at the following venues and festivals:
